Frequently
Asked Questions
Does BriefDating really work?
Yes, in
fact, BriefDating really does work. At each event you will
have from 7 to 14 "brief dates" plus two open mingling
times. At our events the two-way match rate ranges from 60 - 80%!
Is BriefDating a dating service?
Well, you will meet a lot of single
people, and you'll most likely get
a lot of dates from the event, but it’s more just like
a fun night out. BriefDating events occur four times a year in
February, May, September and December.
Is BriefDating just for Jewish people?
The original
"Speed Dating" concept was developed by a rabbi
for Jewish Singles. The concept worked so well that it is
now sweeping the nation and is available for everyone. Our
BriefDating events are open to all single people regardless
of religion or group affiliation.
What happens if an event is full?
BriefDating events do tend to fill up
fast. If an event is full, please register
as a free member, and we'll notify you of upcoming events.
What is the age range?
The age range at BriefDating events varies and is listed for each event. These age ranges
are just general guidelines rather than rigid cut-off points. If you are outside of the suggested age range,
you are still welcome to attend if you are comfortable participating with people within the age range.
The age range at your events are pretty large. Do I have
to sit with people much younger/older than me?
If you are near the bottom or top of the age range, then you will spend half your time sitting with people who you may feel
are outside your age range. However, there will be enough time during the event to meet most or all of the attendees. This way
you will meet most or all of the people in your own age range. There is also a half time break where you can talk to anyone
you are concerned that you might not sit with to make sure you meet everyone you are interested in.
If the attendees were split into two age groups, then the people in the middle would be unhappy that they didn't get to meet
the people in both age groups. The fairest solution is to have one age group and have everyone meet everybody (or almost
everybody).
How does BriefDating work?
You can read a detailed description of how
BriefDating works on our How It Works page.
Are there any rules at a BriefDating event?
To create a
safe, low pressure and enjoyable evening for everyone, there
are two rules you need to follow:
- You are not allowed to ask anyone for his/her contact
information. This includes their phone number, last name,
e-mail address, business card, or their address.
- You are not allowed to ask anyone if they would like to
have another date.
What should I wear to a BriefDating event?
The dress
code for our events is "nice casual." Of course,
you always want to put your best foot forward.
How many people will I meet?
You will meet as many people as there are time
for at our events, which are 3 hours long. Since most speed dating events are only 1.5 to 2 hours long,
you will meet a lot more people at our events.
During the event, there will be two open mingling periods and two 1-hour dating rounds. You will have the opportunity
to meet between 15 and 25 people.
Can I have more than one match?
Absolutely!
If you check off several people that you would like to meet,
and they check you off as well, then you will have multiple
matches.
What if I don’t get any matches?
Overall,
we have a very successful match rate. 60% to 80% of the attendees of each event end up with one or more matches! In order
to make a match, both people have to be interested
in each other. Sometimes people have had many people interested
in them, but they simply indicated that they weren’t
interested in those people, so there was no match. If that
happens, don't give up. The chance of matching at the next
event is very high!
How do I sign up to attend a BriefDating event?
Since
BriefDating events fill up quickly (there are only spots for
50 women and 50 men at each event), we require that everyone
make a reservation and pre-payment to secure their spot. Reservations
are made online only.
You sign
up for a given event by first becoming a free member, enrolling
in that event, and then making your payment.
Can I pay by check instead of a credit card?
Using
Paypal to pay by credit card is safe and secure. However,
if you want to pay by check instead, you can do so. Please
mail a check to the following address:
BriefDating
16 Old Bay Road
Belchertown, MA 01007
Please
note: your check must be received before the event. If
the event is only five days away or less, then you must pay
by credit card.
What if I have to cancel?
In order
to have a successful event we require an even number of singles,
so when you register we consider that as your commitment to
attend the event. However, we understand that life sometimes
gets in the way of fun, so if you need to cancel we will issue
a full refund minus a $5 dollar service charge if you cancel
at least 3 days prior to the event. Alternatively, you can get a full
credit towards a future event instead.
Note: There is no refund if
cancellation is less than 3 days before the event or you do not show up.
Can someone participate in BriefDating more than once?
Yes, we
encourage it if you don't meet that special someone the
first time around. There are around 80% new people at each event, and
sometimes it can take a few tries to meet that special someone.
Can I come with friends or should I come alone?
Either way works. But it’s a party, so the
more the merrier! Invite your friends by clicking
